When I start baking pumpkin recipes in the fall, I like having a jar of my homemade pumpkin pie spice ready to reach for. This homemade blend takes just a few minutes to stir together, and it makes enough for several batches of muffins, scones, or pancakes.

Cinnamon makes up most of the blend, with ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and a little clove to round it out.

Note: The volume measurements are approximate. Weighing the spices will give you the most consistent blend. This recipe makes 70 grams of pumpkin pie spice. Give the jar a shake before using it each time if the spices have settled.
How Much Should I Use?
Use the amount of pumpkin pie spice called for in your recipe. If you’re adding it to a recipe that calls for individual spices, start with 1 to 2 teaspoons and adjust to taste.

I use this blend in my Sourdough Discard Pumpkin Scones, my Pumpkin Pie Sourdough Bread and other pumpkin recipes throughout the season.
Nourishing the Heart
A jar of spice is a small thing nowadays, but at one time these spices were rare and very expensive. Explorers traveled far and wide to get their hands on these spices. They were a true treat.
What a reminder to me to be thankful for the simple gifts God has given us to enjoy and share.
