The cool, crisp mornings of fall always make me want to turn on the oven and enjoy a little cozy fall baking. There is something about a batch of pumpkin muffins or a loaf of bread cooling on the counter that makes an ordinary day feel a little warmer. I’ve gathered a few of my favorite cozy fall baking recipes to share with you.

With six children and a busy home, I appreciate baking that can fit into our days. Sometimes that means nourishing muffins for breakfast and afternoon snacks. Other times, it means making room for a slower sourdough bake or a plate of glazed scones to enjoy with coffee.
I’ve gathered a few of my fall baking recipes here so you can find them in one place. There are fresh-milled pumpkin recipes, a cranberry orange breakfast loaf, and a pumpkin sourdough bread that would be lovely on an autumn table. I’ve also included my homemade pumpkin pie spice to keep on hand for the season.
Cozy Fall Baking Recipe #1: Fresh-Milled Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
Pumpkin and chocolate are such a good combination, especially tucked into a soft muffin with warm fall spices, making these the first recipe on my cozy fall baking recipes lineup. These muffins are made with freshly milled soft white wheat, pumpkin purรฉe, butter, and yogurt, with chocolate chips throughout.
I use my NutriMill Classic to grind wheat berries into fresh flour for homemade muffins, scones, and other everyday baking.

This is a good place to begin if you want a fall bake for everyday breakfasts or snacks. Serve a few while they are still a little warm, then save the rest for another day. The recipe includes freezing directions, which is helpful when you want to do a little baking ahead.
You can also find topping ideas in the full post if you want to make part of the batch a little different.

Cozy Fall Baking Recipe #2: Fresh-Milled Pumpkin Sourdough Discard Scones
Second on my cozy fall baking recipes list are these fresh-milled pumpkin sourdough discard scones. If you enjoy a homemade treat alongside your coffee, these pumpkin scones are a lovely choice. Freshly milled flour, pumpkin, and sourdough discard come together in scones with golden edges and tender centers.
The pumpkin-maple glaze and vanilla drizzle make them feel especially pretty for a fall breakfast or a visit with a friend. You can also leave the glazes off and serve them with softened butter for something less sweet.

The full recipe includes directions for freezing the shaped, unbaked scones, so you can prepare them ahead and bake some when you want them.

Cozy Fall Baking Recipe #3: Sourdough Cranberry Orange Bread
For a change from pumpkin, cranberry and orange bring a bright flavor to the cozy fall baking recipe table. This sourdough breakfast loaf is a nice choice as we move toward Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, too.

The recipe uses an overnight fermentation, so take a look at the instructions before you begin and leave room for that resting time. This is one to plan for when you would like a slice of homemade breakfast bread the following day.
Serve it as part of breakfast, set out slices for an afternoon visit, or enjoy a piece with a warm drink.

Cozy Fall Baking Recipe #4: Pumpkin Pie Sourdough Bread
Last but certainly not least on my cozy fall baking recipes list is my Pumpkin Pie Sourdough Bread. Mildly sweet and full of warm fall flavor, this versatile loaf is lovely spread with cream cheese and homemade apple butter for breakfast, or toasted with ham and Swiss cheese for a hearty fall lunch. Iโve even served it alongside my homemade butternut squash soup.
Made with pumpkin purรฉe, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice, this artisan loaf has a crisp crust and a soft, chewy center that works beautifully with both sweet and savory toppings.

It is a lovely choice when you have time for a sourdough bake and want something seasonal to bring to the table. Try a slice with butter, cream cheese, or apple butter for breakfast.
For an extra autumn touch, the post also explains how to shape the loaf like a pumpkin with baker’s twine. It makes a beautiful centerpiece you can slice and share.

A Little Extra: Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice
A small jar of pumpkin pie spice is useful to have ready before you start your fall baking. My blend combines cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves, and takes just a few minutes to mix together.

Keep it with your baking spices and use the amount called for in your recipe. It is a simple bit of preparation that makes the next batch of pumpkin muffins or scones that much easier to begin.

Nourishing the Heart
Much of the work we do at home is repeated. We prepare food, wash the dishes, and find ourselves doing it all again before long. It can be easy to overlook the value of those small acts of care.
But feeding the people God has placed in our lives is meaningful work. A muffin offered to a hungry child or a slice of bread shared across the table is a small opportunity to love someone well.
As we enjoy the flavors of fall, I hope we will also pause to thank Him for the food we have and the people we get to share it with.
Which recipe would you like to bake first? I’d love to hear in the comments.
